The Public Education Party of Australia (PEPA) has been established as a grass-roots political party to stand candidates who will work to have public funding of school education in Australia directed only to public schools.
Australia cannot afford two parallel systems of school education.
The idea that it is appropriate to direct public funds to private schools, some of which have lavish facilities already while public school students are housed in outdated, poorly maintained and often demountable classrooms is an affront to large numbers of fair minded Australians. The groveling of major party politicians before powerful private lobbies is offensive to Australians who believe that our country needs a quality public education system for all Australian children, housed in quality facilities, and taught by quality teachers.
We reject the Politics of Greed espoused by many politicians over the past fifty years and denounce the wedge politics used by various politicians over many years to split our Australian citizenry and society. The slur of practising the politics of envy hurled in the faces of supporters of public education over many years is rejected and we assert the reality that envy follows greed, greed does not follow envy.
The PEPA is committed to ensuring that every Australian child, regardless of gender, racial, ethnic or cultural background, regardless of any disability, regardless of location in Australia and especially regardless of their family’s financial status, has a quality education second to none.
